Privacy Policy — VOR Sim

Last updated: 9 August 2026

VOR Sim is a VOR and NDB radio navigation trainer. It is designed to work without collecting your personal data.

Data we collect

None. VOR Sim does not collect, store on our servers, or share any personal data. There are no user accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party tracking SDKs.

Data that stays on your device

One thing survives a restart: the home airfield, if you have chosen one by long pressing the map — its code and its position, three values in the app’s own private storage. That is the whole of it.

Nothing else is saved. Your instrument settings, the panes you had open, the tuned frequencies and the flight itself are held in memory only and start fresh each time you open the app. None of it is transmitted off your device.

Network use

The airport and navaid database is bundled with the app and works entirely offline. The only network requests VOR Sim makes are the map tiles and place names drawn by Apple’s MapKit on the moving map. Those requests go to Apple and are covered by Apple’s privacy policy; they carry the map area being displayed, which is the simulated training area, not your position unless you have chosen to centre it there.

To be complete about it: like any network request, those tile fetches reach Apple from your device’s IP address, and an IP address is personal data. We neither see nor receive it. It is the one thing that leaves, and we would rather say so than list everything that stays and let the omission speak.

Permissions

Location (When In Use) — optional, and asked for at most once per launch: to centre the training area on where you are, so the exercise stations are places you recognise. Once you have picked a home airfield on the map, the app stops asking the system for your position altogether.

The fix is used the moment it arrives and is never written to storage — not to the home airfield above, not anywhere. It lives in memory until you close the app. Decline it and the app centres on EDAZ Schönhagen instead and works exactly the same.

VOR Sim asks for no other permissions. It does not use the camera, the microphone, your photo library, your contacts, or notifications.

Sound

The engine sound is generated by the app itself. It plays in the ambient audio category, which means it mixes with whatever else you are playing and respects the silent switch. Nothing is recorded.

Not for navigation

VOR Sim is a training aid. The airspace and the exercise stations are invented for training, and nothing in the app may be used for real navigation.

Children

VOR Sim does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children.

Who is responsible

The controller for the purposes of the GDPR, and the person to write to about any of this:

Arnulf Keese
Germany
arnulf.keese@gmail.com

Under the GDPR you have the right to ask what personal data is held about you, to have it corrected or erased, to have its processing restricted, to receive it in a portable form, and to object to its processing. You may also lodge a complaint with the data protection supervisory authority for the place where you live or work.

In practice there is nothing to exercise those rights against: VOR Sim holds no personal data about you on any server, and the little it keeps on your device is deleted with the app. A request will get an honest answer saying so.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new date.
